Lisa shared with me how she was not being taken seriously enough at work.

Having missed out on a few recent promotion opportunities had really affected her confidence and made her question if she was good enough. Even though she used to be a very confident woman and in a very respected position, she was second-guessing her capabilities because she wasn't feeling valued at work.

I have had these conversations so many times with people from different backgrounds, walks of life and ages.

Some think they look too young, or old, or feel that nobody is recognising how capable they really are. The bottomline, they don’t feel fully heard and respected.

If you are thinking you won’t be taken seriously, this will affect your body language, how you stand, how you carry yourself and even how you communicate.

That is why how you start your day is so much more important than you realise.

There is an energy about a person who is well put together and that feels confident and powerful.

You must radiate confidence from the inside out. This is not just about wearing nice clothes.

Here are my top 5 ways to feel confident and get people to take you seriously:

  1. Look the part. Create an image that is a true representation of yourself

  2. Watch your posture. Stand tall, take space and practice power poses.

  3. Give firm handshakes. And look at people in their eyes when introducing yourself.

  4. Be engaging. Tell people stories and ask questions about themselves.

  5. Act confident. Don't wait to feel it. Know that you are enough and your opinion has value.

I have spent the last 12 years of my life fascinated by what I’ve learned and how changing how you see yourself and communicating that to the world can transform the results you get in life. It is one of the most fun and profound processes you can embark on!
